How To Flatter Your Curves When Layering Clothes
Layering is one of the most
stylish way to keep yourself warm with endless possibilities to choose from.
However, if it is not done correctly, you might make yourself unintentionally
appear bigger than you really are. Don’t lose hope just yet, even though layering
can be a bit tricky but when layered correctly, it can flatter your curves and
give the illusion of a more proportional silhouette. Here are the 6 layering
techniques (that I personally go by as well) for creating the layered look and
how to compliment your fabulous curves.

LAYERING TECHNIQUES:
·
LIMIT LAYERS TO ONLY THREE PIECES- Three layers
are probably more than enough. If the weather is not too cold outside, you can
most likely just skip the layers and just go for one heavy piece to keep
yourself warm. However, if the weather is too cold, do make sure to keep the
layers to a maximum of three so that there would not be any extra bulk added to
your physique.
·
GO FOR FLATTERING SILHOUETTES- Avoid pieces with silhouettes that will make
you look unflattering, such as, anything too loose, baggy, or even skin-tight, which
is a major faux pas. However, if you do decide to go toward the skin-tight
rout, it should be limited to just one piece and it should be just the base
layer.
·
BUILD UP SOME STRUCTURE ON TOP PIECES- The
crucial part for looking fabulous when you have troublesome areas on your body
(like myself) or more too love, is to choose layers with a waistline and build
some structure to your layer so you won’t look so round, particularly the upper
half of your body. Try going for a structured top instead of an oversize one,
cinch a shapeless dress or top by the waist to emphasize the waistline, a
fitted blazer, jacket or cardigan. Basically, anything that would add more
structure to your frame will most likely give you a more flattering look when
layering.
·
CHILL OUT ON THE HEAVIER FABRIC AND CHOOSE YOUR
FABRIC SENSIBLY- Take it easy on the fluffy, puffy, bulky and woolly fabric. I
don’t know about you, but I don’t know too many women would want to add bulk
around their bulk. The point of the layered look is to add color and warmth,
not chunkiness or bulkiness. It’s best to keep the chunky or bulky pieces for
when you can wear them on their own or pair it with under layers made from thin
fabric.
·
BALANCE
TOP LAYERS WITH FITTED BOTTOMS- If you decide to wear several layers on top,
balance the layer top layer with a fitted bottom because you would not want to
make yourself appear bigger then you really are. The key to balancing the top
layers are to keep the bottom half of your body long and lean. Consider trying
out leggings, tights, skinny-cut, boot-cut, or tapered bottoms.
·
TRY GOING FOR ELONGATION- Aiming for elongation
will help with anyone who does not want to look heavier when layering. By
looking tall, it will give the illusion of a slimmer silhouette. One easy way
to achieve the illusion of a slimmer silhouette, is by wearing high heels
because it would elongate your physique. However, if high heels are not your
thing, there are still far more other styling tricks that you may be able to
use as well.
